Qualstar DLT Tape Drive, Model 6101 Desktop Autoloader
- Ideal backup and archiving solution for individual servers and workstations.
- Capacity range from 20GB to 320GB
The TLS 6101 is the right desktop DLT tape drive for users who anticipate upgrading to autoloaders or libraries in the near future. The TLS 6101 uses the same automation model DLT8000 or SDLT tape drive and library-ready mounting enclosure as our TLS-6000 Series DLT Tape Libraries. Your investment is protected and the useful life of the tape drive is extended as systems expansion requires automation solutions. Converting the TLS 6101 to library use takes under a minute, then just a slide the drive assembly into one of the five TLS-6000 automation models.
The TLS 6101 is an ideal backup and archiving solution for your individual servers and workstations. Capacity ranges from 20GB to 320GB, and throughput over 115 GB/Hour can be achieved using compression. DLT tape drives are supported by every UNIX, NT, or NetWare Platform, and all backup and archive applications, making integration of the TLS 6101 easy.
Operating standalone tape drives using just the information provided by the drives LEDs can be frustrating. The TLS 6101 features and LCD display to provide over 20 status messages, including Reading, Rewind, Seeking, and Writing to keep users fully informed, taking the guesswork out of tape operations.
Like our TLS-Series Tape Libraries, the TLS 6101 supports all SCSI-2 standards for easy integration with other devices. The LCD control panel makes setting the SCSI address easy.

|IBM TotalStorage LTO Ultrium 2 Tape Drive
In order to rise to the twin challenges of rapid data growth and shrinking backup windows in today's enterprise environment, IBM has introduced the second-generation IBM TotalStorage LTO Ultrium Tape Drive T400/T400F. Featuring advanced technologies, this tape drive offers more than TWICE the performance of its predecessor and doubles the cartridge capacity when using the new Ultrium 2 media.
Second Generation Enhancements
Digital speed matching (DSM) enables the drive to adjust its native data rate to closely match the host data rate. Along with an increased buffer, this feature may dramatically improve throughput in an environment where the host data rate is less than optimal.
A 64MB buffer works in concert with DSM to minimize the impact of data rate fluctuations by reducing backhitch operations and allowing the tape drive to perform as its optimal speed.
An optimal LTO data compression (SLDC) implementation uses an IBM-patented algorithm that synchronously swaps the data compression scheme between ALDC and pass-through for optimal data compression (resulting in increased storage capacity).
IBM's patented Partial Response Maximum Likelihood (PRML) channel is used to read and write new tapes, while maintaining first-generation Ultrium peak-detect technology to enable backwards compatibility.
Reel motor enhancements allow the maximum tape speed to be increased by 33% to 8 meters/second. Further, the average file access time has been reduced by 33% to 49 seconds, and unload time has been dropped 17% to 15 seconds.
Smart power management greatly reduces power consumption and heat dissipation and can switch the drive to either an idle or standby mode when it is not in use.

Supported drives now include removable-media USB 2.0 and FireWire 1394 devices, plus we've also improved support for IDE/ATAPI tape drives making NovaXchange compatible with all the latest hardware!
- New / Updated Plug-Ins
Do things faster and easier with the new plug-in options available for version 3.1:
TAR / CPIO Plug-in
Library Support Plug-In
Network Support Plug-In
- Support of large block size
This version has the capability to read and write blocks larger than 64k. This requires that the program has access to wnaspi32.dll. NovaXchange defaults to using a maximum of 64k blocks. To use the larger blocks and be able to see them with the Tape Inspector viewer, you must set the read length to a value as large or larger than the maximum block size to be handled.
The large blocks (up to 512k) have been tested with TAR and unlabeled data tapes. There is no specific restriction on using large blocks with labeled tape, except that the standard label format allows for a maximum block size of 99,999 bytes.
This is only available with an ASPI update on Windows 98se and NT. Windows Me, 2000, XP, and 2003 doesn't support ASPI32.
- Queue multiple scripts to run in sequence
This handy new feature allows you to queue all your scripts in advance to run in sequential order, reducing the amount of user required actions.
- Enhanced Host Adapter Support
Improved Support for multiple SCSI Host Adapters and RAID Controllers.
- Plus over 70 other new features, enhancements, and fixes!
NovaXchange includes powerful tape handling and data management software utilities for Windows 98se/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003 platforms, with the ability to transfer and manage all types of data and all kinds of SCSI tape drives between operating systems and different architectures. NovaXchange reads and writes various formats including Fixed Length, IBM or ANSI variable length and even undefined tape record formats.
